I Need A Fur Vest

I think a fur vest is the one item of clothing that I don't have in my wardrobe, at all. So I thought I'd put together a compilation of my current favourites.Mongolian fur and patchwork fox vest, Giambattista Valli, $5,490
Fox fur vest, CH Carolina Herrera, $2,115
Leopard-print rabbit fur vest, Dries Van Noten, $2,085

Leather shearling reversible vest, Donna Karan, $3,400

Endorsing fur. Can't say I agree with this post, I don't think fur looks chic or is ethical. There are so many beautiful things out there, why promote fur?

There is no doubt that the choice to wear fur is one of the most difficult fashion decisions one could make. I too find it difficult to rationalise and have therefore not committed to a purchase. However, if I eat meat, that's not too far off wearing fur.

As to the nature of whether it is ethical, one could argue it either way. I’m sure there is fur out there that is unethically produced, as I’m sure that much of the meat we consume is unethically produced.

My primary issue with the fur debate is where to draw the line. I have leather accessories, I wear angora and sheep's wool and I own silk scarves. It's really a slippery slope and I would personally make a point that using endangered species should not occur in any instance.

Thanks for your comment and I hope to encourage an open discussion on the issue and note that there are also faux fur options in any case which I endorse.

Fantastic response. I completely agree with everything you've said here. I guess as a vegetarian myself, I am in a better position to make a stand re: fur. It would be great to see more of the big name designers endorsing faux fur and more companies showing off their cruelty-free credentials.
