Best Dressed at the 2010 Primetime Emmys

The Emmys presents a notably tricky red carpet situation for Hollywood's television stars. Most of the dresses from the fall season have been worn and the spring collections haven't yet shown. And there's little chance of getting any Couture dresses because not many of the American actresses are known (let alone well known) in Europe. January Jones and Claire Danes were exceptions, wearing Atelier Versace and Armani Privé respectively. Only a handful of other megawatt stars wore European designers. The absence of any Gossip Girls certainly left a gap in the red carpet lineup. Overall, the sparing red carpet offerings left me feeling a bit lackluster, but here's a few picks.

Julie Benz in Pamela Roland.
Julie Bowen in J. Mendel.
Nina Dobrev in Zuhair Murad.
Kyra Sedgwick in Monique Lhuillier.
Claire Danes in Armani Privé.
Jane Krakowski in Escada.
Emily Deschanel in Max Azria Atelier.
Jennifer Carpenter in Oday Shakar.

Best Dressed at the 2010 Primetime Emmys - Do Something Different!

Not only do the Emmys fall awkwardly between the ready-to-wear shows, but the awards are also held during the summer when temperatures are peaking. The warmer climate is not conducive to red carpet wear as delicate beading and yards of fabric are hot and difficult to wear. Here are some of my favourite dresses which are a little against the grain and more suitable for the seasonal conditions.

Lo Bosworth.
Keri Russell in vintage Jean-Louis Scherrer Haute Couture.
Christina Hendricks in Zac Posen.

January Jones Risk Taker Extraodinaire

January Jones was probably my biggest hope to pull out a show stopping gown at this year's Emmys and she didn't disappoint. I have to admit her dress was not my favourite Jones look, but I still applaud the fact that she consistently takes risks amongst a sea of the bland and ordinary. And let's not forget that she is simply gorgeous in any case!
There were a few things not quite right with the Atelier Versace dress, the first being that it appears to be made out of Pepsi cans. But, she's worn Versace on a number of occasions and embodies the Versace spirit effortlessly.

Christian Dior Haute Couture (Part I)

I know it was a few months ago now, but I just wanted to share with everyone a few images which for me sum up the magic of Couture. I love these images because they're not runway images, but more candid in nature.

Proenza Schouler Fall Campaign

My favourite design duo, Proenza Schouler (otherwise known as Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough), have released their first ad campaign since their burst onto the scene just over 8 years ago.Tati's waist seems to have disappeared in this shot, but the rest of the campaign is fantastic. It fully adheres to the Proenza aesthetic and further consolidates the brand's chic reputation. There is no denying that these guys will be around for decades to come.
