Costume Institute Gala Rewind: 2008, Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy

It wasn't a great year for theme inspired dresses, but many designers consolidated their presence as designers such as Proenza Schouler, as worn by Tory Burch above.

Rodarte too joined the ranks of the high profile designers, worn here by avant supporter Dr. Lisa Airan.

Others looked ravishing as usual, Gisele Bundchen looking effortless wearing Versace.

And Christina Ricci in Givenchy Haute Couture designed by Riccardo Tisci.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Costume Institute Gala

Not only is Monday 3rd May to start of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, but another one of my favourite grand events on the fashion calendar will also be taking place in New York. The Metropolitan Museum of Art will host the Costume Institute Gala. The gala celebrates the opening of its exhibition titled "American Women: Fashioning a National Identity" which will run from May 5th until August 15th 2010. This years event will be hosted by the ever topical, Oprah Winfrey.
2008, Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy: I think Noami Watts pulled off the best theme inspired gown in 2008.

2009, The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion. Who better to represent the theme than Marc Jacobs and Kate Moss, in his design.

Past themes have included, "Anglomania", "The Model as Muse" and "Superheroes". I certainly can't wait for the darlings of the fashion world to show us their interpretation of the theme this year. Some of the preliminary celebrity/designer pairing have been revealed here.

Best Dresses

Being at opposite ends of the world is always a difficult predicament for us Australians. When it's almost Winter for us, it's almost Summer for them. While it's still sunny outside, a few more ideas for trans-seasonal dressing. Picked from Elle's pick of best summer dresses: http://www.elle.com/Shopping/Elle-Shops/Summer-s-Best-Dresses
